1. INDOOR FENCING STARTS THIS WEEK
Hey everyone, it's raining, and I am going to hold fencing practice anyway. Woo hoo!

Here is the schedule for October 25 through November 18
Monday, Cornwall Town Hall, 7-9 p.m. All-Level Class 7-8:15, Open fencing/bouting time 8:15-9
Tuesday, Shelburne Town Gym, 7-9 p.m. All-Level Class 7-8:15, Open fencing/bouting time 8:15-9
Thursday, Shelburne Town Gym, 7-9 p.m Competitive Squad practice

All returning fencers are invited to All-Level classes, including those who just started fencing this fall, and those who were unable to make the outdoor classes but want to start up again. Newbies interested in epee - this week will be a good chance to try it out, as the epee fencers will be working on stop hits (the signature counter-attack that makes epee different from foil). I will bring loaner epees to try. In the meantime, foilists will be working on the coupe (the dramatic cut-over move that is a big part of the modern foil style).

Cornwall town hall: 5 miles south of Middlebury on Route 30. Enter front door, go through first door on your left and up the stairs. Shelburne town gym: In the old school building that also houses the police station and town offices, shares a parking area with the library, fire house, and Schip's Treasure shop. Enter door from parking lot, turn right at the corridor (opposite the police station) and gym is first door on the right (it's labeled). Masks on (town policy) in corridors and bathrooms.

For both spaces:
-Clean dry sneakers only. Remove your outdoor shoes at the bottom of the stairs (Cornwall) or in the hallway (Shelburne) and change or walk through the room in your socks and then change.
-To maximize space on the floor, place equipment bags on the stage (both venues have stages).
-Use your water bottle to mark a mask-break area for yourself along the edge of the room, spread as far as possible from others (except family members, who should cluster together to save space).
-Bring your own water, at least until we see what the status of water availability in the building is.

Punch cards are valid in both places, so if you usually come to one location, but find it's more convenient to go to the other now and then, you are welcome to do that. Please keep track of the classes you attend and buy a new punch card when yours is used up. Keep your friendly neighborhood fencing coach in business! If you come to an All-Level class and to Competitive Squad in the same week, you only need to punch your card once.

Covid Safety (you know the drill by now)
-Face cloaks in place except during physically distanced breaks (more important to be careful about this than outdoors)
-Vaccinated if old enough (which means everyone on Thursdays)
-Stay home if not feeling well. Get tested if in any doubt..

2. WRITTEN LESSON PLANS
Outdoors, I was able to take my mask off sometimes when explaining things, and I won't be able to do that indoors. It might be hard to hear and understand instructions when the coach is wearing a mask. If it would help you to read in advance what we are going to do, or to have a written record to review after class, I am happy to share my lesson plans by emailing them to you. We don't always get to everything I have planned, but at least it will give you a starting point on what to expect (or a reminder of what we did in the past). Just let me know if you want to be on the list to get these.

3. EQUIPMENT
If you still have rental equipment but decide not to participate in the All-Level classes, you may drop it off at any of the classes, or at my house - but email and let me know you are going to do that, so I can bring your deposit check back to you (I am not carrying them around all the time).

Free to the first equipment renter who buys their own set of equipment and tells me they want it: wheeled golf travel bag which makes a good fencing equipment bag.

Do you need some clean dry indoor fencing shoes? It so happens I have 3 good pairs looking for a new home, at bargain basement prices. Let me know if you want to try any of these on.
a. Adidas (older model, probably En Garde), size mens 7.5/Euro 40.5. Run narrow. Excellent condition. $25
b. Adidas (older model, probably En Garde), size mens 6.5/Euro 39. Run narrow . In box, look new. $25
c. Absolute MVP size mens 10-10.5/Euro 44. Good but not new condition. $10

4. HALLOWEEN
I'm still looking for a few more costumed swashbucklers for the Middlebury Spooktacular, Sunday Oct 31, 4-7 p.m in front of Mary Hogan School. Fun way to promote the club while entertaining the trick or treaters. Let me know if you can do it..
